A-Z Monday R stands for...

RASCAL!

The feeder hangs upon the pole
To anyone it's plain
The seeds it holds are for the birds
-Not to this rascal's brain!

The squirrel's all about the seeds
He jumped from tree to pole
Then hung absurdly upside-down

And lots of seeds he stole

And so I moved the pole away
From that inviting tree
So go ahead, you rascal, you,

Can you get 'em now? Let's see!

Postscript: Yeah, it turns out he shinnies right up the pole. I guess it's time to grease the pole...

Bird feeders are entertaining aren't they? :D Great work!!!

I'm afraid to say that I have not had a squirrel issue.
Happy Monday to you

HA HA HA! That was great, Ben. Loved the poem and the photos. Those darn squirrels can get into just about anything it seems. Great R word! :)

Great pics for R!

I can think of a better word for those bastards! I can't have a bird feeder in my yard...I even paid a whole lot for one of those domes to keep the squirrels from getting to the feeder...and all they did was hang over the side and chew the wire holding the bird feeder- it fell to the ground and broke! Then some neighbors decide that those rascals are cute nad over feed them...and they bury their peanuts in my garden and peanuts sprout in my flowers! I invested in a pellet gun...but I am a bad aim :(

Never saw such a black squirrel before. I guess they can be pests. I haven't seen any at our place.

Oh brother. I forgot to tell you what a swell poem you wrote! Good R word, you rapscallion!

I think he's cute. We have lots of baby squirrels here but no black squirrels at all.

i don't know if i ever saw a black squirrel! funny how there is nothing that will stop them from eating the bird seed :)

Ok, once again I'm seconding Dawn's comment! A black squirrel? Strange!

Ok, do you plan your pics to the letters??? Your posts are poetic and so orderly, I love them!

And hey, how about them Cavs! :-)

You need to buy a baffle for the pole so he can't climb up it. And move the shepherds hook at least 15 feet from a tree. I've had squirrels take leaps of faith onto my bird feeders!Good Luck!

It's really hard to keep the squirrels off the feeders. We finally found something that works.... We buy chimney piping and secure in to the pole, about a 3 foot section. The top needs to be capped (with a hole for the pole). The squirrels can't go through it and can't go around it. I've watched them go up into the piping and then come back down. It works! We bought our first one at the wild bird store for $50 and decided we could make them ourselves. We can make them for about $10.

Interesting comments. Our squirrels run about 80 percent black, with 20% "other", including one who is black with a brown tail. We have some chimney piping, Jessica, so I may try that. Or will need a shield of some sort. KBL: I'm glad the posts at least APPEAR orderly! WIXY: Good country music pun there, eh? M: So far, I don't have quite the distaste for these guys as you have; but no peanut plants, either! Marg: I liked that one, too. Linda took it.
